Storage and Transportation: This product is non-toxic, flame retardant, as a general shipments of chemicals, sealed and stored in dry place. Carbomer can produce high efficiency thickening at low dosage (conventional dosage 0.25-0.5%), thus preparing emulsion, cream, gel and transdermal preparation with wide viscosity range and different rheology.
Carbomer is not compatible with phenol, cationic polymer, strong acid and high concentration electrolyte. Some antimicrobial agents should also be avoided or used in low concentrations. Trace amounts of iron or other transition metals can catalyze the degradation of carbomer dispersion. Carbomer can produce a lot of heat when it contacts with strong alkali substances such as ammonia, sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide or strong basic organic amines.
Some drugs containing amino functional groups can form water-soluble complexes with carbomer. Usually, this situation can be prevented by adjusting the solubility parameters of the liquid with appropriate alcohols or polyols.
Carbomer can also form pH dependent complexes with some polymer excipients, which can adjust the solubility parameters and also play a role in this condition.
